Project Mud Fairy: Day One
Lots of stuff happened yesterday. Some things were good. Some things were less than good. But overall everything went very well for both of us at LaVelle Vineyards peddling Vicky’s wares. We had a long trip up fairly early in the morning. The drive between Roseburg and Elmira is a beautiful little commute that took us up and out of the Umpqua valley and down along the first slopes of the Willamette valley. It’s around an hour and fifteen minute drive. We arrived and thanks to Mickey Voorhies, one of the other lodal artists, we were allowed to borrow her 10 by 10 foot Caravan Canopy to keep all of our wares dry in case 30% chance of rain turned into 100%. The rain never came but the weather had a lot to do with the poor turnout of approximately 88 people.
As for the sales, let’s just say that they were shaky. But that’s ok. What we missed in sales we gained in experience. I’m typing this on Day Two of our event and in comparing the two days I think that we were quite unprepared when it came to designing and assembling our booth. We had most of her jewelry out and displayed in the primary positions, while her various ceramic art was secondary. Vicky, first and foremost is a potter! We should have remembered that.
I took Vicky out to eat at Ring of Fire. A Thai restaurant in Eugene and I really enjoyed the food. Vicky thought it was good, but she said that she picked a so-so dish and that my dish was superb. We had a difficult time finding a place to have dessert. Half an hour later it was past ten and we were still in Eugene we decided that to head home. We ended up getting a couple of blizzards at The Gay Milkman.
The long drive home had me very sleepy and ready for bed, but Frida had other plans. She got into the trash while we were gone and Meelo was also very upset with how long we were gone. So on Day Two we’ll also be sure to have Chris and Diana come over to check on thema couple of times instead of once.
