Getting busy at work
The economy will roar in 2004! At least for the tech industry it will. More specifically for the Internet. We are so busy right now I’m up to my geeky glasses in work! The problem with the economy right now seems to be that the general cost of living is increasing sharply while wages are staying the same or going down in some areas.
We’re seeing a case-in-point right now here at work. We’re trying to hire a web programmer but the tribe isn’t willing to pay enough for what we need. We need an experienced ASP.NET developer that also knows PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Flash, Actionscript, and has some basic graphic design skills. We’d like to have someone with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. This sucks because anyone who meets these requirements is going to expect at least 50k per year. And on top of that we’re in Roseburg which is a rural town that doesn’t have a big city appeal. Our only way to draw people is if they want to raise a family Roseburg is a great place to do it.
I just got a ton of work dumped on me today and I’m going to have to work a ton of overtime this week to keep up with it all. This is going to be good for my paycheck but I don’t like working overtime. I never have and I probably never will. We’ve been getting a ton of updates for Seven Feathers and today I got more than I’ve ever gotten in one day. Chris is letting me work on the front page of the casino site now and that’s very cool. That means that he trusts me to work on some of the higher level updates now as well as giving me more free reign on some of the graphical changes for our sister companies. Speaking of updates, I have to update the CSS files on Rosenet because the site was re-re-visited by my partner in crime and in the course of redoing some of the code some of my classes were changed! It’s ok though because it’s cool to watch how two different coders code, right? Anyway, I created an advertisement for the Chamber of Commerce on the Roseburg Visitor’s Center website today. That was fun.
Coming up this week I also have to create a flash application for the navigation on the Pacific Crest Trail website which we are in the middle of developing. I also need to get a comp done for UTE One Stop, another new client. And then we will also have more updates for the visitor’s center this week and no doubt for the casino. Lots to do this week. I’ll try to keep you posted if I can keep my head above water long enough.
